Through the lens: San Antonio photographer Miguel Flores

San Antonio photographer Miguel Flores is known throughout the community for his eye for photography, beautiful work, and accolades.

Flores has been working closely as Grace Star Media’s official photographer and has photographed numerous clients, using his talent to bring out the beauty in each person he photographs.

Karen Grace, the owner and CEO of Grace Star marketing agency tells Flores exactly what she’s looking for when it comes to photoshoots, and he is always on point.

“I’ve been shooting with Karen for a few years now and the clients are pretty nice, and pretty exciting people to work with”, Flores said.

Flores says that Grace tells him what she likes and provides him direction during each shoot.

When asked what separates him from other photographers, Flores said that his clients feel comfortable, and with comfortability, those in front of the camera are more inclined to have better outcomes when it comes to photos.

“For me, my goal is to make them (clients) feel comfortable, and to make them look good. So, if I can bring the beauty that is within everyone, that’s my goal too. I want everyone to feel beautiful as we are doing the photoshoot”, Flores said.

When shooting, Flores said that he wants his clients to feel like a celebrity, mentioning that he brings a hair and makeup team or glam team, and that is only part of what separates him from the rest of the photographers in the San Antonio community.

Flores is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2015 after living in Austin for a short while.

Flores realized he had a passion for photography when he lived in Colorado.

“I really liked the street style. I would see all the people on the street and I would take my little camera and start shooting people,”Flores said.

Flores also paints, and finds joy in photographing landscapes.

“When I moved to Brackenridge, I fell in love with landscape, so I started doing a lot of landscape photography, and then I started doing boutiques and magazines”, Flores said.

Flores said that it’s been over ten years now, and that his passion has only been more ignited, especially since he has won awards for his eye for detail.

“The last (award) I received was in I think the 2021 Texas Fashion awards, and that was exciting because when I first moved to San Antonio and attended that event, I said, ‘I want to win that award’”, Flores said.

The Texas Fashion Industry Awards (TFIA), a non-profit 501c3 is an official award ceremony that awards those within the fashion industry.

According to their website, TFIA is dedicated to the positive growth of the Texas fashion industry through career development and empowerment programming for fashion creatives and entrepreneurs.

Flores said that validation for creatives and photographers is not needed, but when a bigger group decides to nominate you, it is a nice feeling.

Flores has also photographed many pageant contestants and queens mentioning that it is a bit different and that there is much more glam and glitz involved.

“I feel like extra is the word. Everything has to be perfect when it comes to hair and makeup, nice eyebrows, and you have a whole team who will do hair. You also have to find the right designer”, Flores said.

Flores said that putting someone in a look and photographing them showcases their personality and their beauty within.

That beauty stems from confidence, and comfortability with the photographer they are working with.
